A key point that can't be stressed enough on an ex-jw message board ;)

Upon leaving the Jehovah's Witnesses the protestant model is naturally going to be the way which most people who continue to believe will flow, being that their own personal experience with "organization" guides the way they interpret and perceive Christianity.

Mr. Flipper & Son Hear, See, and Get Footprints of Bigfoot on Pack Trip

so, the long awaited trip began for my son and i to return to the same place he heard a bigfoot a year ago in the forests of northern california.

the trip started out unfortunately for us to be a 7 mile hike instead of a 2 to 3 mile hike in to our base camp , as huge snow drifts covered the road , making it even inaccessible for 4 wheel drive, so , with packs on backs we hiked over 50 ft long snow drifts on places on the trail.

even snow was covering one creek near the lake we were destined for .

The End of Circuit Overseers

is indeed apparently nigh as another poster predicted along with the end of the weekly bs.

not sure when this should take place but i'm reliably informed by a family member that one of the uk's overseers was talking about it fairly recently.

reduced to weekend visits by an outside but local elder instead.. i have no further info..

The Society cannot afford thousands of discontent former COs around.

I agree. If anything this would have to be a long term change and not one that is announced in the KM. Slowly letting those 'temp' CO's do all the work while you no longer replace the ones that 'retire'.

My question is, with all of the things they continue to cut back when are they actually going to start introducing stuff that is new? New programs, activities, postiions, ect will help set the course moving forward. Cutting back things currently being utilized looks as if things are slowing down.

Just about had it with Microsoft... thinking about converting to Apple!!!

My Wintel machines at home will diminish through attrition while the Apple hoard will expand to dominate every room of the house.

I'm guessing by Wintel you mean "windows, intel". Don't know if this is going to come as a shock to you but Apple computers as of a few years ago now all have intel chips in them ;)

I bought my first mac back in 2003. It was a powermac G4 tower. Ever since then I have been all mac all the time.

I'm no mac snob. I like the product, but have no intention of becoming part of the 'cult of mac' were I try and convert others. I think its a superior product and that's why I stay with it. If a better product comes along form another vendor, i'll move. At this point that seems like a far ways off. So I'm sticking with mac for now. Vista was interesting, but no where near what I thought it was going to be.

If you're looking at a desktop, go with the iMac, it is quite a bargain. The tower probably will be updated sometime late this summer so if you're not in a hurry I would suggest not going down that route. The Macbooks and Macbook pros are great machines as well, although they tend to really heat up after a while (i'm using a mac book pro). I would skip the mac book air, its a first generation machine and you will be paying for that privilege.

Anyone else having this problem with Witness Friends and Relatives

they are all over me with all of these "end of this system of things" signs......earthquakes, cyclones, pestilences, cost of food to lead to food shortages, blah, blah, blah....did they make an announcement at the kh that "this is it!!

" they say that we've never had all of these things happening all at once like we've had the past few weeks...... .

Just remind them of how certain it was that the world was ending in 1925. I mean, that was totally going to happen...

Comparison between jw elders and catholic priests

aside from their theological weirdities, i'm wondering about their function.

eg, if you had a personal problem who would you most likely trust for just resolution involving a confessional type situation?

Funny you should mention the amateur part....in one of the CO's talks, he said that elders were not professional counselors or therapists, just there to help "spiritually."

What's really sad is when these same elders feel like they can put on those hats, and then they fail and make an even bigger mess.

That argument has possibly even been put forth in the magazines.

Personally I don't like comparisons like the one in this topic, they are just to broad and generic to gather real meaning. While similarities can be drawn about certain policies, the social structure of the two religions are so complex that general comparisons don't really say much about either . Just my opinion.

If the Watchtower did get rid of circuit overseers that would make tons of sense.

The Watchtower desperately needs goals for its young men to reach out for. If CO was not a full time position but rather something that a few Elders where granted as a 'privilege' then there could be a possibility for more advancement'. It would also take tons of liability off of the Watchtowers hands.

The Circuit overseers really don't do that much anyway.

Sunday's public talk...

went with the wife this week for the public talk (i simply will not sit through the watchtower study), the subject was about how poorly governments are taking care of thier people in disasters.

the speaker(who had a british accent) started by saying "burma(myanmar) had 2 tsunamis and the government sent flat screen tv's as aid for the refugees..." needless to say this dillweed lost me for the next 30 minutes of his talk about how man can't care for god's people.

i left during the study as always and returned at the end of the meeting, still burning over the glaring lie told by this "brother" which by the way no one even batted an eye in the congregation!

The crisis in Myanmar is because there is a dictatorship!

Not to surprising that JWs who reject the idea of scholarly debate and discussion would proliferate generic ideas that give no depth whatsoever about complicated political and economic problems.

Simplistic and naive answers to complex questions. Way to go Watchtower!
